The last months of 2020 witnessed two important tests in the field of air and missile defence. These trials are important in terms of highlighting some important issues in the context of both air and missile defence and space warfare.
On 16 November, a Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IIA type missile fired from the US Navy destroyer Arleigh Burke class DDF-113 John Finn hit and shot down a target missile in the role of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). In the interference that took place outside the atmosphere in the space environment, the warhead of the missile directly hit the target, destroying it with kinetic energy.
