President of Defence Industries Prof. Dr. Ismail Demir answered questions of Turkey's leading defence magazines via domestic video conferencing system. Answering the questions of C4Defence, Demir made important statements about the Turkish defence sector's post-COVID-19 period plans in addition to naval systems projects.
Stating that the naval projects and TF-2000 process is continue, Prof. Dr. Demir stated that TF-2000 continued to maturation process within the scope of the Turkish Navy requirements. Underlining the importance of naval superiority once again, the President also underlined that our country has capabilities and significant competence. It was emphasized that the ship was not only the hull, but the weapon systems have critical importance. While MilDen, Atmaca missile, torpedo, and air defence systems studies continue. While explaining that there are also collaborations within a road map in this area, it is emphasized that in some cases companies may be reluctant, and in these cases, the B and C plans continue without causing disruption in the process. In the field of mini-submarine, remote-controlled or autonomous systems, he also discussed that studies and competitions continue and that it is time for them. Dr. Demir announced that surprising weapons are likely to appear.
The first ship of the class, TCG Istanbul is under construction. It is on the agenda that domestic weapons are preferred for next three other platforms. Stating that the ship-based missile work at various ranges continues. Prof. Dr. Demir explained that the work for the Atmaca and Gezgin missiles continue and that the engine process is about to result in a positive. It was underlined that studies are currently underway for anti-ship and naval cruise missiles with longer range and larger warheads and also air defence missiles.
