Technological developments come with new aircraft concepts. The armies, who do not want to stay behind the future, continue their work in this parallel.
The US Army selected the first contractors for the future helicopter. Under the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft Program (FARA), the U.S. signed an agreement with Sikorsky and Bell. In the period when the first prototypes will fly in 2023, it is aimed to fill an important capability gap after the retirement of the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters. Bell take place with 360 Invictus and Sikorsky with Raider X platforms in FARA which financed by the US Government.
According to the published specifications for the helicopters to be manufactured in the program, which will be described as the helicopters of the future, platforms should fit in containers of 12.2 m x 12.2 m (40 ft x 40 ft) and should be able to reach 180 knots / hr cruise speed.
