The U.S. Department of State has decided to approve a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine.
This sale covers the maintenance of the PATRIOT Air Defense System and related equipment, with an estimated cost of 105 million U.S. dollars. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has delivered the certificate containing the necessary notification to Congress.
Scope of the Sale
The Government of Ukraine requested to purchase materials and services related to maintenance for the PATRIOT air defense system. This scope includes:
• Upgrading M901 launchers to the M903 configuration.
• Specified load and stock lists for ground support equipment.
• Other necessary services, auxiliary equipment, spare parts, support, training and accessories, as well as other related elements of logistical and program support.
According to the Ministry’s statement, this sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by increasing Ukraine’s ability to cope with current and future threats, and by enhancing its capacity to carry out self-defense missions with a more robust local maintenance capability.
This equipment and support sale is not expected to alter the basic military balance in the region.
Contractors and Implementation
The main contractors will be RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.
Implementation of the proposed sale will require the assignment of approximately five additional U.S. Government and fifteen U.S. contractor representatives to the European Combat Command for up to one month to support training and periodic meetings.
