Finland-based leading defense and technology company Patria has entered into a significant collaboration for the production of armored vehicles. Patria Land Oy and Valmet Automotive Oyj have reached an agreement on the technology transfer and initial production of armored vehicles. This strategic partnership stands out as part of Patria’s goal to meet rising global market demand and create additional production capacity.
Technology Transfer Begins Immediately, Production in 2026
According to the agreement, cooperation on technology transfer will start immediately. The first Patria armored vehicles are planned to roll off the production line at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki facility in Finland in the second half of 2026. The parties did not disclose the commercial value of the cooperation.
Focus on Capacity Expansion and Strategic Growth
Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business unit, expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation: “Although our production is at a very good level for the delivery of all existing and anticipated orders, we are especially looking for additional capacity to meet future demand. Technology transfer is a natural part of Patria’s business model, and this is the first and important step in our cooperation with Valmet Automotive.”
Valmet Automotive CEO Pasi Rannus emphasized that the agreement marks a key milestone in implementing their new strategy: “This agreement is an important turning point in executing our new strategy. We will have the opportunity to demonstrate in practice that our decades-long expertise in contract manufacturing represents an exceptional level of quality, and this expertise is highly suitable for serial production of a wide range of products. This partnership also brings together two strong local players.”
Patria’s Protected Mobility business line has experienced significant growth in recent years. This line includes critical armored vehicle programs such as Patria 6×6, Patria AMV XP and Patria TRACKX.
In parallel with rising demand, Patria is significantly increasing its own production while continuing investments in its facilities in Hämeenlinna, Finland, and Valmiera, Latvia. The company has also strengthened its technology transfer and local production concept through this new partnership.
