The US Marine Corps conducted a flight test by providing data communication between the Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter and a ground station using the new Link-16 hardware and software.

Using the digital architecture of the Viper, Link-16 enables it to quickly receive data from its sensors and share the data it receives with other weapon systems and other friendly units on the battlefield. This not only increases the situational awareness of both the AH-1Z and friendly units in modern network-centric combat environments, but also allows them to share targets in a short amount of time.
With this integration, the AH-1Z Viper has taken its place among other NATO systems using Link-16.
