Indonesia Buys FREMM from Italy

Italian company Fincantieri announced the signing of a contract with the Indonesian Ministry of Defence covering the supply of six Bergamini-class FREMM (Fregata Europea Multi-Missione) frigates and the modernization of two Maestrale-class frigates.

Fincantieri will work with the PT PAL shipyard in Indonesia to build the frigates. Details on the cost of the contract and the subsystems to be used have not yet been disclosed.

The FREMM programme, an Italian-French Defence industry cooperation project, is shaped on a common basis against the needs of the parties. With a full payload displacement of 6,500, the ships are 144 meters long and have a maximum speed of about 27 nautical miles.
