Following the completion of the first day at the NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a press conference.
“Will another decision be taken towards Turkey,” asked one journalist, reminding that Turkey was removed from the F-35 Lightning II program due to the S-400 air defence system. Stoltenberg said the issue did not come up during today’s session, but that he and his NATO allies had discussed it earlier.
Stoltenberg expressed concern about Turkey’s supply of the S-400 system, noting that Patriot or Eurosam Samp-T (Surface-to-Air Missile Platform/Terrain) developed by NATO allies instead of the Russian air defence system was proposed as a solution.
Stoltenberg said that there are differences within the organisation regarding the S-400 issue, but that NATO is a place where opposition can be discussed.
