Korea Allocates 5% of Military Budget to Aircraft Carrier

The Republic of Korea’s Defence Acquisition Programme Administration (DAPA) has announced that the aircraft carrier construction will begin in 2022. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2033.

The project, originally named LPX-II, was added to the 2020-2024 defence plan. DAPA said about $2.7 billion worth of budgets will be allocated in the initial phase of the project, which has been renamed CVX.

Ski-jump ramp removed in platform design. The F-35B Lightning II stands out as the ship’s main aircraft.

Korea’s military budget between 2021 and 2025 was agreed at $250 billion. It is estimated that 5% of the budget will be used for the aircraft carrier.

CVX’s annual operating cost will be worth about $180 million.
