New images have been released from the assembly line of KF-X (Korean Fighter-eXperimental), a fifth-generation aircraft project developed under the main contractor of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
The images, shared from the KF-X assembly line in Sacheon, south of Seoul, featured two prototypes belonging to the aircraft. The first prototype showed vertical stabilization being placed. The mission and flight control computer will be added to the KF-X for ground testing and test flight upon completion of the performance test.
The prototype of the aircraft, developed with a joint subsidiary of the Republic of Korea and Indonesia, was unveiled in early September 2020. The KF-X, scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2021, is expected to conduct its first flight test in 2022. Korea has previously stated the platform’s first flight date as 2023.
For the platform’s Active Electronically Scanned Array, Korea is working in partnership with Israel-based company Elta.
