Japan’s Supersonic Missile Variant Viewed for The First Time

Developed variant of Japan's ASM-3 supersonic anti-ship missile produced by local sources was shared for the first time.

The ammunition was captured during A Visit to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries by Japanese Deputy Defence Minister Tomohiro Yamamoto.

Changes are thought to have been made to the body and size of the new variant, which has been subject to changes in accordance with the needs of the air force.

The development of the supersonic missile designed for F-2 fighter jets began in 2003. The cost of research and development of the munitions, which passed a total of 15 launch tests by 2017, is said to be worth approximately $US367 million.

Last year, it was decided to increase the missile's range. Along with the changes executed, the RANGE of ASM-3 has increased to 400 kilometres.

Japan's F-2 aircraft are already equipped with ASM-1 and ASM-2 developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
