The Tejas Mk2 fighter jet, which India is developing, will be partnered with the UK. Meetings between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Boris Johnson signalled closer cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. As a result of the decisions taken, the UK will support India’s local development of the Mk2 and assist with the engine.
The two countries are also working to sign the Logistical Memorandum of Understanding.
Compared to other variants in the Tejas aircraft family, the Mk2 is expected to have a larger body, longer range, greater payload capacity and a powerful engine. The plane, whose first flight is scheduled for 2023, is scheduled to enter the production line in 2025.
