DESAN has signed a Joint Venture and Cooperation Agreement with its local partner for a new shipyard to be established within the integrated development zone SM-WEZ (Straits of Melaka Waterfront Economic Zone) created by the State of Malacca, Malaysia. The project, which was officially formalized at a ceremony held in Istanbul on January 8, marks DESAN’s first overseas shipyard investment.
Project Details and Areas of Activity
Within the scope of the investment, a comprehensive facility will be constructed where military and commercial shipbuilding activities will be carried out, as well as maintenance, repair, and modernization operations. Engineering studies have been initiated for the shipyard, which is planned to be established on a total area of 171 decares; bathymetric measurements and geotechnical surveys have already been completed.
Target 2026
According to the project schedule, construction of the shipyard is expected to begin in the first months of 2026. The investment is planned to be completed within two years, with the facility targeted to become operational thereafter.
