The FIRAT-M60T Project where ASELSAN modernized some of M60T main battle tanks in Turkish Armed Forces has been completed. It was launched in order to provide more effective protection to M60T tanks against anti-tank threats and terrorist attacks and to deliver additional capabilities to existing systems. The project has been going on for about a year.
A contract amendment was signed between the Defence Industry Presidency (SSB) and ASELSAN. With this change, it was decided to modernize all M60T tanks in Land Forces Command's inventory.
Contract amendment was signed for € 96.7 million and TL 25 million increase depending on the additions made within the scope of FIRAT-M60T Project signed between SSB and ASELSAN. As a result of the amendment, the contract amounted to EUR 206 million and TL 50 million.
The contract will also begin to integrate the PULAT Active Protection System into the M60T tanks. The PULAT Active Protection System detects the anti-tank missiles directed at the tank in the air and destroys the threat at appropriate distance before impacting the tanks. The PULAT Active Protection System provides protection against multiple missiles at the same time.
