The CH-53 Stallion helicopter family is the largest and heaviest heavy-lift cargo helicopter in use in the US and Western world inventory.
Despite the problems detected during development and factory tests, the CH-53K King Stallion helicopter completed its first sea tests. The first trial, completed on the USS Wasp (LHD 1) amphibious assault helicopter, was conducted in the Atlantic Ocean and lasted about two weeks. In this context, activities such as take-off and landing in different weather and wind conditions, starting and shutdown of the engine, folding the rotors, connecting and releasing the towing vehicle and towing the helicopter on the deck and in the hangar were carried out. It was informed that the tests with night vision equipment in the night environment were also positive.
CH-53K King Stallion, which is managed by a crew of five, can carry 55 personnel. The maximum take-off weight of the platform, which has 15,900 kilograms payload capacity, is 38,400 kilograms. The helicopters, capable of aerial refuelling, has 204 km combat radius at 315 km/h cruise speed without additional reserves and refuelling.
