Taiwan Develops Fighter Jets

According to Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), development of the next generation fighter jet, which the country plans to produce with local resources, is underway, even ahead of schedule.

NCSIST President Chang Chung-Chung said the first stage of the program is overall design and engine R&D, and they will complete the work in 2024.

About $310 million has been allocated for engine R&D, while the overall design will include 24 main technologies.

Taiwan, whose fighter jet fleet is aging, signed an $8 billion deal with Washington in 2020 for 66 new F-16Vs.
