Second Prototype of Jet-Powered Okhotnik to Take Off at End of Year

A date has been set for the 2nd prototype of Russia’s Sukhoi S-70 Okhotnik drone, powered by a jet engine. The second prototype, which is expected to be completed in August, will take off at the end of this year. Testing phases will be initiated, including controlling the operation of the engines and taxiing along the runway of the airport.

The 2nd prototype of the S-70 will have structurally different characteristics than the first. The results of the first version’s tests indicated that the second drone was produced, while there are expected to be “serious” differences between the two platforms.

The Russian Defence Ministry had ordered an acceleration of the program for the drone. Yury Slyusar, director general of United Aircraft Corporation, then announced that Okhotnik would be handed over to the Russian Armed Forces in 2024.

It is noteworthy that the maximum take-off weight of the UAV is 20 thousand kilograms and the radar cross-section area is low compared to its counterparts.
