Russia introduced its new self-propelled mine removal system during the Kavkaz-2020 exercise. Developed on the basis of the BMP-3 armoured combat vehicle chassis, the system is designed to provide forces with close-range mine removal capability.
The mine removal tool features a platform ceiling-mounted launcher for line loads used to overcome and clear obstacles. This allows the destruction of mines with the pressure of rockets to be launched over minefields.
The new system will replace the Soviet-era UR-77 mine-clearing vehicle included in the inventory.
