Rheinmetall has signed a strategic contract aimed at enhancing the medical operational capabilities of the Danish Armed Forces. The company’s subsidiary, Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH (RMS), has reached an agreement with Danish procurement authorities for the delivery of five Role 2 field hospitals.
Contract Scope and Timeline
The contract, recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, has been valued in the mid-double-digit million-euro range. Under the agreement, delivery of all systems is scheduled to be completed within two years. The systems to be supplied consist of three Role 2B (Basic) and two Role 2E (Enhanced) configurations.
Operational Capability: Role 2B and Role 2E Configurations
The systems are configured in two different tiers according to operational requirements. The Role 2B version functions as a fully containerized mobile unit mounted on trucks. In addition to its rapid deployment capability, the system includes a tent-based “Forward Module” that can operate independently from the main unit and provides full diagnostic and surgical capacity.
The Role 2E configuration stands out with dual operating theaters and increased intensive care capacity compared to the Basic version. This version also includes additional equipment such as a CT (computed tomography) scanner, laboratory and pharmacy containers, and a dental treatment unit. All containers have been designed and field-tested to withstand military environmental conditions and transport loads.
Technical Equipment and Autonomous Operation
Both the Basic and Enhanced hospitals are designed to operate fully autonomously in the field for a certain period. The systems will be delivered as an integrated package including power generation, water supply, and oxygen production units, as well as military hygiene facilities. Additionally, the selected medical equipment has been ensured to be fully compatible with the existing inventory of the Danish Medical Service.
Armin Krenn, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme, stated that the process conducted with the Danish procurement agency and end users was professional and goal-oriented, emphasizing that they have developed high-performance, mission-focused solutions for the Danish Medical Service.
