The U.S. Air Force revealed plans to integrate Raytheon’s Enhanced Paveway II (GBU-49) onto F-35s in order to enable the aircraft to hit a moving target. The aircraft's electro-optical targeting systems (EOTS) lacks a lead-laser guidance mode which will allow a laser-guide weapon to hit a non-stationary target. GBU-49 has an onboard lead-laser guidance capability, so it doesn’t need to rely on the EOTS system for that data.
