NATO’s New Allied Commander Europe

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg with outgoing SACEUR, General Tod D. Wolters and incoming SACEUR, General Christopher G. Cavoli

At the ceremony of Allied Command Operations on Monday (4 July 2022), General Cavoli succeed General Tod Wolters in Belgium.

NATO secretary General Jens Stoltenberg complimented General Wolters for his service and referred to his work about the Ukraine invasion by saying; “responding with speed and strength to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”. 

He continued by thanking General Wolters for guiding new NATO defense plans which made it possible to take transformative decisions at the Madrid Summit.

To praise and congratulate General Wolters’s success for the last 3 years, General Jens Stoltenberg awarded Wolters with the NATO Meritorious Service Medal.

To welcome General Cavoli, the Secretary General spoke about his 35 years of military success in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Washington D.C by saying; “…You have overseen the largest reinforcement of US presence in Europe in decades, with over 100,000 troops.” He also pointed out that he is confident in General Cavoli that he will continue to serve NATO in the same dedication he always has.
