Myanmar’s First Submarine Take Part in Navy’s 73rd Anniversary

A ceremony was held today for the 73rd anniversary of the Myanmar Navy. Myanmar’s first submarine, kilo class UMS Minye Theinkhathu, was also displayed at the event.

India and Myanmar signed an agreement on maritime security cooperation; In October, India’s INS Sindhuvir, purchased from Russia in the 1980s, was on its way to be granted to the Myanmar Navy.

With the delivery completed during the Bandoola fleet exercise, the INS Sindhuvir became Myanmar’s first submarine.

The platform, which was modernized according to Myanmar’s needs under the contracting of Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), was named UMS Minye Theinkhathu. The submarine, which has a displacement of about 3,000 tons, is 73 meters long and 10 meters wide. Equipped with 18 missiles and torpedoes, the platform can host 52 crew members
