Modernization Time for Skjold Class

The Royal Norwegian Navy has announced that Skjold-class coastal corvettes will be modernized. KONGSBERG and UMOE Mandal AS signed an agreement to modernize the platform with body design, which can be described as a hybrid of catamaran boats with airbags.

Modern technologies and cost-effective solutions will be developed to make the ship more sustainable, it said. Thanks to its body structure, the Skjold class has a SENIT 2000 combat data system with high mobility in shallow waters.

The modernization of the platform, equipped with anti-ship and air defence missiles, will be carried out at UMOE Mandal's shipyard in Norway.
