Ukraine’s Defence Ministry has asked for the Mi-2 helicopter to be modernized under the main contractor of Motor Sich. The helicopters will be used in co-operation with ADA Class corvettes purchased from Turkey.
As part of modernization efforts, the Mi-2’s systems are expected to be fully digitized and equipped with a new engine.
Â
Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Oleksandr Myronyuk said the helicopters would have two versions for use in search and rescue and anti-ship missions.Â
Mi-2s with two turboshaft engines can be equipped with rockets and gun pods, as well as firing anti-tank and air-to-air missiles. The platforms will be modernized by 2023.
Last week, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Strategic Industries Oleg Uruskiy also made a statement about the corvettes. Uruskiy stated that they wanted to use the gas turbine produced by Zorya – Mashproekt in the four corvettes to be built.
Â
Construction of the corvettes is expected to begin later this year.
