Malaysia Activates ScanEagle 2

The ScanEagle 2 UAV, delivered to Malaysia as part of the US Maritime Security Initiative (MSI) program, was launched for the first time on March 6, 2021 at a ceremony at Sepanggar Naval Base.

The 601st Fleet became the first to operate unmanned aerial systems in the Malaysian Armed Forces with the drone entering service. Unmanned vehicles planned to be deployed in naval systems are part of the program launched in 2016.

The Malaysian Armed Forces will add a total of 12 platforms to their inventory. New systems are scheduled to be delivered to Malaysia at the end of 2021 or early 2022.

The United States will also donate drones to Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam to ensure maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.
