Lockheed Martin is withdrawing its personnel from Balad Air Base, which is supporting Iraq’s F-16 fleet, due to threats from militants in the region.
The threat from Iranian-backed militants comes after U.S. personnel temporarily left the main base of operations in recent months, according to a U.S. Department of Defence report.
“As employee safety is our top priority, we are relocating our F-16 team in Iraq,” Lockheed Martin said in a statement.
The New York Times reported on May 10 that Lockheed Martin had 70 employees at Balad, 50 staff would return to the United States and 20 would travel to Erbil.
