The new UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters of the Lithuanian Armed Forces took to the skies for their first test flights. Representatives of the Lithuanian Air Force announced that the successful trials confirmed the functionality, efficiency, and operational readiness of all major aircraft systems. These new platforms represent a new stage in the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ mobility and technological advancement.
High Operational Capability with Black Hawks
The successful tests mark a critical step before the integration of these important helicopters into the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ inventory.
The new Black Hawk platforms will support a wide range of operations, from search-and-rescue missions to combat operations. This extensive operational capability will enhance the flexibility and mission readiness of the Lithuanian military.
Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, expressed special thanks to the Pennsylvania National Guard for their contributions to the project: “I am particularly grateful to the Pennsylvania National Guard for providing helicopter testing, advisory support, and a simulation system tailored to the needs of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.”
Pilot Training Continues in the U.S. and Lithuania
Lithuanian Armed Forces pilots underwent an eight-week refresher training program in the United States to achieve the required qualifications for the UH-60M Black Hawks. The training will continue in Lithuania with on-site flight exercises. During this period, the Black Hawk simulation system in use at the Lithuanian Air Force Base since September, together with American instructors, will support pilot training.
Air Force representatives emphasized the significance of this development, stating: “The successful first test flight marks a new stage in the development of the Lithuanian Air Force. This is not just a vehicle, but new horizons for our pilots and maintenance personnel.”
First Deliveries Completed
The first two UH-60M Black Hawks were delivered to the Lithuanian Air Force Base on October 18. Two more helicopters are expected next year, completing the Lithuanian Air Force’s initial Black Hawk inventory.
