Rolls-Royce announced yesterday that the factory acceptance testing of the first MT30 gas turbine, which to be integrated into the newly-built Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) for the Italian Navy, was successful. Representatives from Italian Navy and Fincantieri company, the main contractor of LHD, attended weekly performance test at the Rolls-Royce factory in Bristol. LHD will be powered by two MT30 gas turbines, and has a displacement of 20 thousand tons. LHD will be about two hundred meters long and will be able to reach a maximum speed of twenty five knots. MT30's factory acceptance tests are a prerequisite for delivery to the Fincantieri's yard located in the Muggiano area of La Spezia. LDH will be built and launced at Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia, Naples shipyard. LHD is scheduled to be delivered to the Italian Navy in 2022.
