The Republic of Korea has posted a short promotional video for the transport plane to be developed.
The military transport aircraft, which will be developed and manufactured under the leadership of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), will be able to take part in space missions and refuelling operations.
KAI announced that it will build its own transport aircraft over seven years with an investment of about $2.7 billion in 2020. Yonhap News Agency interviewed Ryu Kwang-su, the firm’s Deputy General Manager, last month. Kwang-su said the firm had agreed with the Defence Procurement Program Administration on the need to develop multi-purpose aircraft.
“We aim to replace imported aircraft with platforms that we have developed domestically and to expand to the foreign market with our own aircraft in the long term,” Kwang-su said, noting that there are currently 70 transport aircraft in use by the Army, Air Force and Navy.
