Korea will produce the K9 self-propelled howitzer’s engine with the country’s resources. In this context, approximately $22 billion will be invested under the localization program to be carried out by STX Engine. It is aimed that the engine will enter mass production within five years. Within the scope of the project, STX competed with Doosan Infracore.
The platform can send three rounds to the target in 15 seconds in pulse firing mode. The MT881 Ka-500 diesel engine of the platform, which has technical support from Germany-based MTU Friedrichshafen, currently has a 60% domesticity rate. This rate is expected to reach 100% when localization is completed.
