According to the Indonesian Government, the US Department of Defence supports the possibility of the F-15 Eagle and F/A-18 Super fighter jets being sold to Indonesia. Acting US Secretary of Defence Christopher Miller met with his Indonesian counterpart, Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto, about the potential sale of Boeing F-15 and F/A-18 fighter jets.
It has been raised that Indonesia has also requested the purchase of the F-35 Lightning II. However, the United States is said to want to eliminate the F-35 option, stating that the delivery of the aircraft will take a long time.
At the beginning of December, the France-based La Tribune website reported that Indonesia would buy a Dassault Rafale bomber. It was stated that the parties could make an agreement soon.
Indonesia signed a contract with Russia for 11 Su-35S in 2018, but problems were raised regarding the “technical aspects of the agreement”. The cancellation of the agreement was raised earlier this year. Pressure and financial problems from the United States are thought to be related to what happened.
