India is developing the AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft, where the Airbus A320 aircraft will be used as a platform.
India’s Ministry of Defence has approved the project to transform Airbus A320 platforms granted by Air India into AWACS by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The aircraft model, which has been converted into AWACS, will be on display at the Aero India 2021 international exhibition in Bangalore from February 3rd to 5th.
The New Delhi inventory currently has the A330 AWACS, Russian production A-50Ekhl and Brazilian EMB-145SA Erieye as electronic warfare and support aircraft.
