ICBM Claim by North

North Korea launched a missile on Tuesday which it said to be the first test of an intercontinental ballistic missile. Japan claimed the missile has landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off its western coast after flying for approximately 40 minutes travelling over 930 kilometers. A Japanese Government spokesperson stated that this ballistic missile launch was an extremely problematic act and at the same time a clear violation of the Security Council resolution, adding they cannot condone these repeated acts of provocation from North Korea.

The US officials said the missile to be a medium range ballistic missile rather than an ICBM, however failed to determine the exact type. An announcement on North Korea state television said a Hwasong-14 missile was tested on Tuesday and that the projectile reached an altitude of 2 thousand 802 km and flew 933 km before hitting a target in the sea.
