According to an image published on Russian media last week, Egypt has taken delivery of the first batch of Antey-2500 air defence system (NATO reporting name: SA-23 Gladiator/Giant). Designed and manufactured by Russian defence company Almaz-Antey, the system is a downgraded export version of S-300VM. Antey-2500 has a range of up to 200 kms with a maximum altitude of 30 kms and can engage short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, precision guided weapons, strategic and tactical aircraft.
