The delivery date of the Armata, the modern main battle tank that Russia began developing in 2011, was announced as 2021.
The Russian Defense Ministry has signed a contract to deliver 132 Armata tanks to forces by 2022, but technical problems indicate that this date will be postponed.
“Serial deliveries of the T-14 tank will begin in 2021. Today is undoubtedly the best tank in the world. In the future, this platform will be the new main battle tank of the Russian Armed Forces,” Rostec said.
Russia decided to start the mass production phase of the next generation of T-14 Armata tanks in the period 2019-2020, but the decision was postponed due to economic difficulties.
The Armata, which is resistant to NATO’s modern 120mm munitions body and features steel, composite and ceramic plates, has soft kill active defence systems.
At the 2020 International Military and Technical Forum (Army 2020), it was announced that the sale of the T-14 Armata main battle tank to India, Egypt, Vietnam and Belarus was on the agenda.
