The Republic of Korea said the North fired several unidentified projectiles this morning, which travelled some 200 kilometers at a maximum altitude of about 2 km before dropping to the East Sea. The missiles are assumed to be short-range surface-to-ship cruise missiles and launched as a show of force in the face of joint maritime drills involving US aircraft carrier strike groups.
North Korea has launched 16 missiles in 10 tests in 2017. Today's launch was the fourth trial in a month and came one day after the Republic of Korean President Moon Jae-in's government suspended the deployment of THAAD.
