BrahMos Missile Exports Secures $455 Million Mega Deal

India’s defense industry has achieved a historic leap with BrahMos Aerospace signing cruise missile contracts worth a total of 4,000 crore (approximately $455 million) with two foreign countries. Announced by India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, these record BrahMos missile export agreements confirm the country’s growing global influence in defense manufacturing.

Minister Singh’s announcement coincided with the commencement of production at the Lucknow BrahMos facility, developed through the India-Russia partnership, which manufactures supersonic cruise missiles.

One of the most tangible steps to enhance India’s indigenous defense production capacity is the Lucknow BrahMos plant. The facility has officially begun production of supersonic cruise missiles, with an annual target of 100 missiles. The operationalization of this strategic facility is seen as critical both for meeting export demands and achieving India’s self-reliance goals.

Strong Warning to Pakistan from Defense Minister Rajnath Singh
Speaking at the ceremony in Lucknow, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a pointed warning: “Every point is within BRAHMOS range of Pakistan’s territory. Operation Sindoor was just a fragment,” clearly sending a deterrence message to the region. Minister Singh also inaugurated the first batch of missiles produced at the facility, calling BRAHMOS a symbol of India’s rising power.

Operation Sindoor and Strategic Gains

While emphasizing India’s strong deterrent capability, Minister Singh referred to Operation Sindoor conducted in May. During this operation, India’s BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missiles were used to target terrorist infrastructure and defense facilities in Pakistan.

The Minister also confirmed that the BrahMos team signed contracts worth approximately 4,000 crore ($455 million) with two countries over the past month. The economic and strategic implications of these agreements and the facility becoming operational are significant:

“The revenue of BrahMos’ Lucknow unit is expected to be around 3,000 crore in the next financial year, and GST collection will be approximately 500 crore rupees.”

Minister Singh added that in the coming years, experts from multiple countries will visit Lucknow, transforming the city into a knowledge hub and a leader in defense technology.

Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath noted that under the Defense Industrial Corridor initiative, Uttar Pradesh has become a center for indigenous defense production, with the BrahMos unit serving as a shining example.

During the ceremony, BrahMos Aerospace showcased modern facilities for missile integration, testing, and quality control, including demonstrations of mobile autonomous launchers and storage vehicles.
