Marneuli Airport Is Being Renewed with Turkey’s Help

Turkey allocated $2.1 million in 1999 for the restoration of Marneuli Airport near Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia; In 2004, Ankara allocated grants to bring the region to NATO standards.

Russia bombed Marneuli Airport during the war in 2008. Badly damaged, Marneuli was repaired after the war and continued to serve.

Georgia announced the re-start of renovations as part of the airport’s compliance with NATO standards.

Turkey, which granted $14m to Georgia as part of the work, sent more than 35 buses and 12 armoured work machines to the Georgian Armed Forces in November last year.
