461 New Engines to the F-15EX

The US Air Force will buy 461 engines for F-15EX fighter jets.

Engine deadlines have been announced as part of the development announced by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) on February 5. It was announced that the engines would be delivered between October 2023 and June 2031. The Air Force announced in May 2020 that 461 engines would be needed for up to 200 F-15EX aircraft.

The F-15EX, the last developed varied of F-15 Eagle aircraft, made its first flight on February 2, three days before the need for new engines was announced. After the performance of the platform, which remained in the air for 90 minutes, it was announced that two F-15EX could be delivered to the force later this year.

GE Aviation was contracted to produce 19 F110-GE-129 engines, including integration for the F-15EX, spare parts and modernized engine monitoring system computers. GE delivered its first F110-GE-129 engines in September 2020.

The F-15EX program, run under the main contractor of Boeing, will replace F-15C/D’s that have reached the end of their service life.

One of the big differences between the F-15 and F-15EX is Open Mission Systems (OMS). With the OMS architecture, the use of cost-effective techniques and the integration of standardized task systems can be achieved. F-15EX’s can be equipped with advanced weapons, as well as a new electronic warfare system and technological cockpit.
