Turkey’s Space Program in 10 Steps

The programs of the Turkish Space Agency (Türkiye Uzay Ajansı/ TUA) to be carried out in 10 steps as of yesterday have been announced.

The objectives, including sending a Turkish citizen into space, are as follows:

– At the end of 2023, the first contact to the moon will be made with the hybrid rocket that will be fired in near-Earth orbit. The first goal, consisting of two stages, is primarily to make a hard landing on the moon. In 2028, scientific activities will be launched in the region by providing the soft landing on the moon with a rocket produced by domestic sources.

– Within the single company, it will unite the satellite production capabilities that Turkey has. With this step, the domestic satellite development program will be carried out from one hand.

– Developing a regional positioning and timing system for Turkey to meet navigation needs for civilian and military purposes has come to the forefront as another goal.

– After providing access to space, it is planned to establish a space port operation in the area. Domestic-produced rockets will be able to carry heavy useful cargo into Earth’s orbit. A partnership will then be established with an allied country that will provide competence as a geographical location for the space port.

– Investment in Space meteorology will be made to prevent the negative effects of wireless broadcasting, communication and navigation systems, power grids and oil pipelines with changes that may occur in Space.

– The knowledge obtained in the defence industry will be moved to the space field and an ecosystem will be created under the leadership of TUA.

– A structure will be entered to ensure the production of sub-components of space technologies in Turkey. For this purpose, a space technology development zone will be established within METU to host domestic and foreign investors.

– Cooperation will be made with universities and the private sector to train and employ human resources working in the field of space.

Finally, a Turkish citizen will be sent into space as part of TUA’s roadmap.
