Aviation company Hermeus, which continues its efforts to develop an aircraft that can reach hypersonic speeds (5 Mach +), signed a 60 million US Dollar cooperation agreement with the American Air Force on August 5.
As part of the agreement, the United States Air Force will perform flight tests of the company’s first aircraft capable of flying at Hypersonic speed, the Quarterhorse.
The Quarterhorse aircraft has a turbine-based compound cycle principle engine developed by the company.
The system was developed to work with conventional gas turbine engines, such as Ramjet and Scramjet, for flight at supersonic and hypersonic speeds.
The collaboration includes support from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
The USA will analyze the project once again in the coming years and decide whether to invest more in line with the progress made by the company.
Time will tell how the project, which is still in its early stages, will unfold.
