The US Department of Defence announced on 28 November that it has approved the sale of $323 million worth of AIM 9X Block II tactical missiles and AGM-154 Joint-range out-of-range munitions to Finland.

A report from the Pentagon states that: ‘’ The proposed sale will enhance Finland’s air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons capabilities and positively impact US relations with countries in the Nordic region.’’ The announcement of the sale of 40 AIM 9X and 48 AGM-154 came more than nine months after the Russia-Ukraine war, prompting both Finland and Sweden to seek NATO membership.

The US State Department approved the sale, and the Defence Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress on Wednesday. The Pentagon said in a statement that the sale “will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by enhancing the security of a trusted partner who is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
