US Navy To Address Fighter Shortfall

The US Navy plans to induct at least 80 Boeing F/A-18E-F Super Hornets to service in the next five years. The navy wants a boost to its combat capabilityand to address its fighter shortfall. The Navy’s testimony to the Senate Armed Services seapower subcommittee states that with the support of the Congress, the service will procure a minimum of 80 additional Super Hornets across the Future Years Defense Program (FYDP) in addition to 14 planned in FY2018 with a value of $1,25 billion and continue modernization plans to address continuing warfighter demand for advanced tactical aircraft. 

According to the written testimony, the service wants to aquire 23 aircraft in 2019 for $1,95 billion, 14 in 2020 for $1,35 billion, 14 in 2021 for $1,27 billion and 15 in 2022 for $1,28 billion in addition to 14 in 2018.
