Faruk Akşit, General Director of TUSAŞ Engine Industry TEI, announced that they have completed the prototype of the TS1400 turboshaft engine and that it is ready for delivery.
Participating “Career and Projects at TEI” broadcasted online, Aksit stated that they will deliver the TS1400 to the Gökbey helicopter for its integration at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in December 2020.
However, Aksit pointed out that they have a long way to go
“It is not enough to improve the engine. We will rip this engine through a lot of tests. This will take several years. After that, a certified engine is requested for Gökbey. Certification process also takes several years” Akşit said.
Akşit underlined that their aim is to train the TS1400 for the first mass production Gökbey.
“The TS1400 is more powerful than its counterparts due to the demand to its work at high altitude and hot weather, and have 100-150 shp more powerfull than the motor that used in the Atak helicopter. Aksit informed.
The 1400 shp indigenous and national engine is planned to be used at first in Gökbey multirole helicopters which are being developed by TUSAŞ TAI.
