The Second Prototype On Its First Flight

The second prototype of India's indigenous basic trainer aircraft, Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40), has carried out its first flight on 20 May. Chairman and Managing Director Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) said: “The second prototype was made ready within one year, and flew for one hour carrying out important manoeuvres.” The first flight of the second prototype was initially planned in May 2016.

HTT-40 aims to achieve operational clearance by 2018 and will replace Indian Air Force's (IAF's) HPT- 32 ‘Deepak’ for basic flight training, aerobatics, instrument flying and close-formation flights.
