Qatar requested a demonstration of capabilities of S-400 Triumph and Pantsyr-S systems from Russia during the Army 2017 Forum. Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu, who had a meeting with his Qatari counterpart Khalid bin Mohammad al-Attiyah during the event, stated that participation of the Qatari delegation in the Army Forum would promote establishing of closer relations between both countries. 

Minister of State for Defence of Qatar, on the other hand, said their intend was not only the purchase of air defence systems from Russia but also bring the technology to Doha and develop that industry.
