Taiwan has taken delivery of two Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates from US, during a handover ceremony on 9 March. The two frigates, formerly USS Taylor and the USS Gary, were decommissioned in 2015 by the US Navy and retrofitted to extend their service lives by about 30 years. Taiwan purchased the vessels under a $177,21 million contract. The guided missile frigates were named Mingchuan and Fengjia.
Oliver Hazard Perry-class vessels has an overall length of 136 m and powered with two General Electric LM2500-30 gas turbines with a single shaft.
