Qatar has signed a $12 billion contract for 36 Boeing F-15QA fighter aircraft, according to the country's Ministry of Defence announcement on 14 June. The deal was finalised in Washington by Qatari Minister of Defence Khalid Al Attiyah and US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis.

The US has approved the possible sale of up to 72 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21,1 billion in November last year and the recent contract marks the first order in this scope. This acquisition will increase collaboration and interoperability between US and Qatari forces despite of the present diplomatic tension arise from The US' criticism against Qatar alleging support to terrorism.

Qatari F-15s will be powered by two GE F110 turbofan engines with afterburner, will be able to achieve a top speed of Mach 2.5 and operate at a maximum altitude of 21 thousand 336 meters in all weather conditions. The aircraft can carry up to 13 thousand 381 kilograms of payload and equipped with an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.
