MBDA has been awarded contracts by France and the United Kingdom for Storm Shadow/SCALP EG long-range air-launched cruise missiles' overhaul work. According to UK Ministry of Defence, MBDA will upgrade the weapons in order to sustain the missile until its planned retirement in 2032 under the agreement announced on 22 February. The turbo-jet engine, navigational system and cabling, seals, and gaskets of the missile will be refurbished.
The deliveries of upgraded Storm Shadow/SCALP EG missiles to the Royal Air Force (RAF) are planned to begin at the end of 2018, while France is expected to receive the first delivery by 2020.
