TÜBİTAK SAGE's thermobaric munition production phase, which was unveiled in IDEF'17, is being carried a step further. When the work is completed, the Machinery and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) will begin production of thermobaric explosive mass production. At the R&D projects signing ceremony of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) on 26 January, a new phase was reached in the Thermobaric Explosive Development (TENDÜREK) Project for Warheads.

Under the agreement, TUBITAK SAGE will complete the Tendürek Family with the recently initiated Thermobaric Explosive Development (VOLKAN) Project. The project will be completed in three years. TUBITAK SAGE will be the main contractor of the project while TUBITAK MAM and MKEK will serve as subcontractors.

In the first stage of the project, TUBITAK SAGE will develop the powdered thermobaric explosive with national sources. TÜBİTAK SAGE will also undertake the design, installation and commissioning of the Thermobaric Explosive Large Scale Production Facility.

TUBITAK MAM will undertake low-scale production. Then, MKEK will take over the production of TUBITAK MAM and provide production at a higher capacity. From this stage, MKEK will use thermobaric explosives in various weapons. The project will both reduce costs and dependence of foreign sources.
